When it comes to landscape lighting, I think it is generally important to embrace two principles: patience and working with what you have. I firmly believe you can create good landscape images in any light, but the key is learning to read the light a given scene has and shoot photos that that light is conducive to. Of course, you may have a different shot in mind, in which case, patience comes into play. Professional landscape photographers will often wait hours for the light they are looking for or even follow weather forecasts and plan to visit a location multiple times to get the shot they want.
